TRAINS

Physics-based minecart trains link the world together. Couple carts behind a furnace engine, ship cargo between towns, and let the train load its own chunks while you focus on something else.

Building a Train

A train is a chain of minecarts pulled by a furnace cart. Couple them with chains, in order, behind the engine.

  1. 1Place a Furnace Minecart on the rails as your engine. Every train must start with one.
  2. 2Place the next minecart (regular, chest, or hopper) directly behind it on the same rails.
  3. 3Holding a chain, sneak + right-click the front cart (start with the furnace). You'll grab a lead from it.
  4. 4Still holding the lead, sneak + right-click the cart behind it. The two are now coupled.
  5. 5Add more cars by chaining onto the last car you coupled, then the next one behind. Max train length is 1 furnace + 8 cars.

Example: Furnace → Cart → Cart → Cart

Chunk Loading

The furnace cart loads and unloads chunks as it moves. Trains can cross the world without anyone there to keep the chunks awake.

  • Chunk loading is automatic for as long as the engine is fuelled and moving.
  • Chest and hopper minecarts behind the engine make this useful for shipping goods between towns while you do something else.

Rails

Laying track is no longer an iron-mine money pit.

  • The standard rail recipe now yields 64 rails per craft instead of 16.
